About

Originally invented by Egon Wegrostek back in 1993 and first patented in 1994, PoolSan is now well over 25 years old and growing from strength to strength.

The PoolSan treatment system uses the combined power of a mixture of metal ions (primarily copper) in a liquid solution and active oxygen to keep your swimming pool water clean and safe to swim in.  The combined disinfection, flocculation and clarifying powers of all the elements of the PoolSan system provide crystal clear water that sparkles and is odour free.

Over the years PoolSan has been rigorously tested and developed to improve it's efficacy and impact on the environment.  You can even water your garden and lawn with backwash water from your pool without any detrimental effect to your garden.

PoolSan vastly improves the quality of bathing water, whilst ensuring that bathers and pool maintenance staff at public pools no longer suffer from the possible side effects of harmful chemicals.

In further recognition of its effectiveness, the UK HSE approved the PoolSan system as a complete replacement of chlorine in commercial pools and spas. In the UK and Norway, several hotel groups and health clubs have moved away from traditional chlorine treatments in favour of PoolSan.  The Norwegian Asthma & Allergy Foundation also rigorously tested PoolSan and verified that it is truly a hypo-allergenic pool treatment, unlike traditional chlorine based treatments.

All this goes to prove that PoolSan is the future of pool water treatment.

PoolSan products fully compliant with UK & EU biocidal products regulations.

The sides of my pool are slippery

Cause: Development of algae and polluting organisms or waste from bathers.

2- Check the Poolsan cs (Cu) level and dose if necessary.

3- Perform a shock treatment as above.

4- Check the  the filter, clean / backwash  if necessary - Run the filter for longer.

I have corrosion problems Cause: The pH or Total Alkalinity levels level are too low - Solution: Adjust the pH, Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness levels as necessary.
How is PoolSan different from chlorine or bromine treatments? PoolSan in solution will not form harmful disinfection byproducts like chlorine or bromine. The Pool water won’t sting your eyes, has no smell and wont affect your hair.
What should I do the first time I use PoolSan CS? First make sure your filter is clean and working. Check that the pH is between a value of 7.2 and 7.4. If not, adjust the pH with pH correction products (pH- or pH +) that you can easily find at your dealer or that you already have. Add the initial dose of PoolSan CS according to the dosage values relative to the volume of water in your pool.
Can I bathe after dosing PoolSan CS? Yes, you can swim a few minutes after dosing PoolSan CS in your pool
How do I get rid of the chlorine in my pool? Chlorine is compatible with PoolSan CS. Just add PoolSan CS when you plan to treat your pool - directly in the pool water.
The chlorine will evaporate on its own, and you can redose PoolSan CS after 1 week after the initial dose.
You can check that the copper concentration is between 0.4 and 0.8 mg / l for optimal use.
Can I empty the water from my pool in my garden and on my
flowers?
Yes! You can use the water from your PoolSan pool for your garden or on your flowers! (unlike chlorine).
The emptying must be carried out around or below the swimming pool, in such a way that the water seeps into the ground, and does not cause any flooding.
How to test if the PoolSan CS  level in my swimming pool water is correct? The copper level in your pool is the best indicator of the level of PoolSan CS active ingredients in the water. Measure your copper with the test
kit provided by PoolSan. The optimal target value to obtain is 0.7 mg/L of copper. If you measure below, refer to the dosage table to increase the concentration, depending on the volume of water in your pool.
Know that the maximum allowable level of copper in safe drinking water is 2.0 mg / l, you are far below it!
Do I need to dose PoolSan CS when wintering my pool? It is recommended to dose your pool before wintering, and to test copper levels every 3 months.
Adjust if necessary.
What effects may occur if I overdose PoolSan CS? If you really exceed the recommended levels of PoolSan CS, swimsuits may eventually discolour as well as very blond or bleached hair. To simply erase this effect, rinse clothes or hair with lemon based cleaning products / shampoo and clean.
It should be noted that the same effects also occur in chlorinated swimming pools, but these are more difficult to remedy.
If you stick to the prescribed doses, these effects will never appear!

Will my PoolSan CS treated pool water react with sun lotions?

Firstly - You are absolutely correct to use sun lotion to protect against the harmful effects of the suns rays, and we would never recommend that you do not use sun lotion of any type.

Unlike chlorine which will react with excess organic oils in the water to form harmful by-products, no harmful by-products are formed in our PoolSan chlorine free treatment system.

The vast majority of sun lotions have no effect on the treated water or pool water quality.  However we have noted a few isolated cases where excess sun lotions end up floating on the water causing aesthetic issues like an oily scum line at the waters edge and where this oily scum line has been left to dry it can be difficult to remove.  Also the oils floating on the water can be absorbed by swimwear and once the swimwear has dried can cause staining.  We have also noticed this in chlorine treated pools.

The following steps can be taken to avoid or eliminate these effects.

1- Ensure your pool skimmer is working correctly to remove anything floating on the water into the filter.  If your above ground pool does not have a skimmer, they are available as an optional extra for above ground pools and are not expensive.

2- If you notice a scum line forming at the waters edge, wipe it away with a sponge or soft scouring pad before it dries and becomes difficult to remove.  If you have a situation where it has dried and does not come off easily, use the online chat service on our website to message us and we can advise you further.

3- If you notice a sheen from the sun lotions on the water's surface or any of the other effects above, wash all swimwear before they dry, otherwise the oils may cause the swimwear to be stained.

Thankfully this does not happen for the vast majority of sun lotions.
